Dear Neurology and Pediatric Neurology Community,
As the NBIA (Neurodegeneration with Brain Iron Accumulation) Turkish Study Group, we successfully held the 9th International NBIA Symposium in the heart of Istanbul on October 17-19, 2024. We had the privilege of hosting dedicated scientists and researchers advancing innovative research to develop therapies for individuals, both children and adults, affected by these rare neurodegenerative diseases. The symposium took place within the historical setting of Istanbul University, and the event showcased the latest developments in ongoing research at the molecular, biochemical, and metabolic levels.
A total of 142 scientists and physicians from Türkiye, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Iran, the Czech Republic, Canada, Russia, and India participated in the symposium.
33 e-posters were accepted, and the NBIA Disorders Association awarded travel grants to 5 of them. The Best e-poster Award was presented by Swiss NBIA to Dr. Ibrahim Kamacı from Turkey for his work on QSM in Kufor-Rakeb Disease, and to Dr. Eleanor Attridge from the UK for her study on Molecular Mechanisms in BPAN.
We are deeply grateful to all the scientists, moderators, international and local organizing committees, poster coordination team, participants, contributing friends, and sponsors who made this top-tier scientific event possible.
The symposium booklet and related photographs are attached for your attention.
On behalf of the Scientific and Organizing Committees,
